An outline lets the student know the course description and rationale, how many hours of study are involved, any pre- or co-requisites necessary to take the course, and imortantly, what the learning outcomes of the course are.
The workplan outlines contact information for me, required materials for the course, what is expected of students, and most importantly - what is going to be covered each week, and how the students will be evaluated for their work.
